… and what you can expect to learn when you make the decision to invest in it.
Quick Overview of Glossika Russian
You might have heard of Glossika before. It’s a program based on the science of “spaced repetition”. What this exactly means I will explain later. But for now it’s important that you know that this is a method of learning that is in tune with how your brain learns.
In other words, it’s very effective to learn new words and phrases in Russian.

Glossika Russian Review
In order for you to get the most out of this Glossika Russian review, I want you to carefully read the following paragraphs. not only will I explain there what you’ll exactly get when you order the program. I’ll also give you a detailed explanation why the program works.
You’ll also find out why I really liked the program and what the hidden benefits are of this audio program when learning Russian…
What you’ll get when you order Glossika
When you order Glossika, you will receive the following:
- Unlimited practice lessons – you’ll get access to all repetition sentences (more than 6.000!)
- Practice in your car – you can download each lesson to your phone so you can practice while you’re offline
- Extra language learning features – learn how to write Russian and a lot more (continue reading for more information)
This might not seem like a lot of different aspects, but the last thing you need when trying to learn something as difficult as Russian, is a complicated program. The simpler the program is structured, the more effective it is.
The science behind Glossika Russian – Spaced Repetition
Glossika is a very effective way of learning. Here’s how you’ll learn Russian with Glossika:
- You listen to 1 MP3 file (1 lesson) every day. In this lesson you will hear several sentences, both in Russian and their English equivalent. The sentences are repeated so you know exactly what each sentences means (the repetition are just long enough to make the lesson sink in – without being boring!)
- The next day you listen to the following lesson. In this lesson you will first listen to the sentences from the days before (hence the spaced repetition) – this really causes your brain to completely understand each phrase. After the repetitions from the days before, you will get 5-10 new sentences!
- This is not mandatory for success with Glossika – but I recommend you recheck the written spelling for each lesson and new phrases. So you will know exactly how the new words and phrases are written in Russian. This is great way to improve your understanding of the written Russian language.
Because every sentence that you learn will be repeated several times in several days, your brain will understand each phrase at a deep level.
When you sleep, your brain stores important information in your long-term memory. And the more you repeat a sentence, the more important your brain sees it. So, that’s why learning Russian with Glossika is a long-term strategy to learn new words and phrases!
Why I really enjoy how Glossika Russian teaches you Russian
Beside the effectiveness of the program, there’s one more thing I really like about Glossika:
“Since Glossika is an audio program… you can listen to the program on your phone. This makes it perfect for learning while you’re commuting to work, cooking or cleaning your apartment!”
This means that you don’t have to set aside extra time to learn Russian… and since most people are busy these days, it makes Glossika Russian a fantastic choice when you want to learn how to speak Russian effectively!
All you need is 20 minutes each day
All you really need to learn Russian is only 20 minutes each day. Why this number? The answer is simple. Because each MP3 file only lasts for 20 minutes maximum!
You can listen to 1 lesson each day (which is exactly what the program recommends you do). And you will learn 5-10 new sentences every day… this might not seem like a lot… but imagine how many new words, phrases and sentences you can learn in a couple of months of following Glossika…
100 lessons x 10 new phrases = 1,000 new phrases.
1000 phrases x average 5 words = 5,000 words!
Using Glossika will skyrocket your Russian vocabulary.
Glossika Russian review: Full guide how to use the program
In this section I’ll guide you through how the program works. I’ve added a ton of screenshots so you’ll know exactly how things work and how you can use them. After you’ve signed up, and chose Russian as your language, there will be a test at what level your Russian is:
So you will be practicing at a level that is right for you. After all, there’s no use in learning sentences and phrases that you don’t understand. If you have the time though, it might be a good idea for you to pick a level that’s easier for you. It’s always a good thing to go back to the basics and do those again.
The next thing is a really nice feature that you’ll actually get to choose which topics you want. So if you really can’t stomach those ‘doctor topics’ that seem to come with many Russian audio courses – just turn them off!
The only mandatory topics are social and travel. But those are important in any case. Here’s an overview of all the topics that you can choose.
Now that you have picked the topics that interest you, it’s time to get started!
Here are some screenshots of when I was doing my first lessons.
So you’ll hear a new sentence every 7 seconds (you can speed this up or slow it down in the settings). You can then answer the sentence and check if you got it right. As you can see I was 20 reps into my session – which lasted for another 40. So each daily session is 60 reps in total and takes you around 7 minutes. You’ll learn a ton of new words and phrases in just 7 minutes per day!
Extra options for Glossika (practice writing + customization)
Not only can you practice your Russian speaking, but you can also practice for writing. This is especially nice if you want to get better at typing in Russian or want to improve your spelling and grammar. The way you practice writing is the same – only know you have to write (be sure to install the Russian keyboard!)
There are also a ton of customization options for while you’re doing your Glossika training. For example, you can decide to get a weekly progress report by mail – or a daily reminder to log in and to do your daily practice lesson. And you can also change the speed of the repetition, or turn off the text (so you can practice listening better).
Take a look at the customization menu for the settings:
There’s a ton more of stuff to really make your own Glossika lessons as effective as possible for you. But I won’t discuss all of them in this Glossika Russian review – I recommend you to try the program out yourself!
How much does Glossika cost if you want to learn Russian?
Another question we’ll discuss in this Glossika Russian review is if Glossika is worth the money. A good question, since there are quite some programs out there that you can use to learn Russian.
Glossika costs $24.99 per month. That gives you:
- Full access to the every language available on the platform – so not just Russian, but also each of the other 50 languages. Great if you want to check those out, or maybe you have a friend or family member who is also learning a language and you can share the costs.
- Access to all the premium features (writing, pronunciation etc.) discussed in this post – this means that you can improve on every aspects of Russian and not just on the hearing and speaking part.
As for the price, it’s around $1 per day. And you can learn a lot of sentences and vocabulary if you daily use the program. Another thing I’d like to compare it to is taking a private tutor. Costs of this are quickly around $50 per hour. If you use Glossika for about 20 minuter per day – that’s 10 hours per month. With a private tutor that price would’ve been $500! So the price of Glossika at $24.99 isn’t a lot.
Now, I do recommend you to check out the program before you buy. Luckily you can sign up for the free trial – in that you’ll get a thousand free practice repetitions in the language of your choice. Sign up for the free Glossika trial here and find out for yourself how the program works for you.
